Vinho Verde is a Portuguese Demarcated Wine Region, located in the geographically known location of Minho and Douro Litoral.
Vinho Verde is not a type of wine, a color of wine, nor does it exist in opposition to the erroneous definition of mature wine. The harvest in the Demarcated Region of Vinhos Verdes begins alongside the other wine regions of the country, so the grapes are harvested in their perfect state of maturation and not “green”. The process of harvesting and vinification of grapes is the same as the process of vinification of white, red and rosé wines practiced by other Portuguese wine regions.
Some enophiles point out that this variety of wine is called “green” thanks to its high acidity.
